How old do kids have to be to play in tball leagues?
Generally speaking, our tball leagues start with kids as young as 3. Each of our locations is independently run, so there are some differences between age groups by location. One note is that children have to be slightly older to play tball than some other sports, because they have to have enough motor skills to learn how to swing a bat, throw a ball, etc. Find an i9 Sports Tball League near you to get specifics.
How old do kids have to be to move up into baseball leagues?
Kids move up into baseball starting around 5 - 6, depending on their skills and preferences. At age 6, kids are in baseball leagues with coach pitch. They’re learning the hand-eye coordination to swing at the ball, but with coach pitch, the coaches work to help each child be successful at learning to play baseball!
Do you offer toddler tball leagues?
It depends on your definition of toddler, but generally no. Our tball leagues typically start with kids at age 3. Some locations will allow children as young as 3 to play, but it’s important to keep realistic goals and expectations for the youngest children. Our goals are for them to have fun, learn to love sports, learn coordination like throwing, catching, and hitting, and learn to play on a team. With our kids tball leagues, we focus on the youngest group having fun and learning sportsmanship over perfection of game rules.
Can toddlers play tball?
Kids who have just learned how to walk and are as young as 1-2 cannot functionally play tball in a youth sports environment. To play tball, kids need to be stable on their feet, be learning how to throw and catch, be learning to swing a bat, and be learning how to run. One of the big benefits of tball leagues for young kids is how much they learn and develop motor skills like running, throwing, catching and hitting.
Can I pick which tball or baseball team my child plays on?
Yes you can! When you register your child for a team, you can request which team they are on. If you don’t know any teams yet, no worries! Your child will be matched to a team with similar skills and age groups and have lots of opportunities to make new friends.
Can I request my child be on a tball or baseball team with their friends?
Yep! If you want to register your child with their friends, there’s a place for you to do that. When registering, you will see a “Buddy Request” box. You can type in the name of the child you’d like to be “buddied” with. If you have already registered, you can contact your local i9 Sports team office to request this.
What do 3 - 5 year olds learn in tball?
Our youngest age groups focus on the absolute fundamentals required for tball – running, jumping, throwing, catching, and hitting. Most importantly, our focus for kids this age is to help them have fun and cultivate a love of sports in general. We help them learn about teamwork, playing with others, and the foundations of good sportsmanship.
What do 5 – 8 year olds learn in baseball?
For our slightly older kids, we focus on teaching them more advanced skills needed for baseball. We work with them on hand-eye coordination with hitting a ball that’s been thrown by a coach, with progressively faster balls as their abilities allow. We help them learn to throw and catch, as well as control the speed and direction of throwing.
Age-appropriate rules are both introduced and enforced, though some of the more complicated concepts are enforced more generously at the younger ages. All of our programs are beginner-friendly, so kids in this age group who haven’t played baseball before are welcome to join, learn, and have fun!
What do 9 – 12 year olds learn in baseball?
9 – 12 year olds are old enough that they’re learning full baseball rules and concepts. They’re playing with pitchers who are on the other team, rather than coach-pitch. And they’re playing with full outs and full rules. At i9 Sports, we believe in every child playing in every game – and this includes having opportunities to move into different positions and try things out throughout the season. The core fundamentals we always promote include sportsmanship and an overall love for the game. Each location has different ages for our youth baseball leagues, so find a location near you to see which ages are offered.
