How old do kids have to be to play in your kids soccer leagues?
Generally speaking, our kids soccer leagues start with kids as young as 3. Each of our locations is independently run, so there are some differences between age groups by location. Find an i9 Sports Soccer League near you to get specifics.
Do you offer toddler soccer leagues?
It depends on your definition of toddler! Our soccer leagues typically start with kids as young as 3. The 3-4 year olds love to run around and discover the outdoors, but it’s important to manage your expectations of how many rules they learn. With our kids soccer leagues, we focus on the youngest group having fun and learning sportsmanship over perfection of game rules.
Can toddlers play soccer?
Kids who have just learned how to walk and are as young as 1-2 cannot functionally play soccer in a youth sports environment. To play soccer, kids need to be stable on their feet, and be learning how to run. One of the big benefits of soccer leagues for young kids is how much they learn and develop motor skills like running and kicking.
Can I pick which soccer team my child plays on?
Yes you can! When you register your child for a team, you can request which team they are on. If you don’t know any teams yet, no worries! Your child will be matched to a team with similar skills and age groups and have lots of opportunities to make new friends.
Can I request my child be on a soccer team with their friends?
Yep! If you want to register your child with their friends, there’s a place for you to do that. When registering, you will see a “Buddy Request” box. You can type in the name of the child you’d like to be “buddied” with. If you have already registered, you can contact your local i9 Sports team to request this.
What do 3 - 5 year olds learn in soccer?
Our youngest age groups focus on the absolute fundamentals required for soccer – running, jumping, kicking, and they start to learn dribbling and passing. Most importantly, our focus for kids this age is to help them have fun and cultivate a love of sports in general. We help them learn about teamwork, playing with others, and the foundations of good sportsmanship.
What do 5 – 8 year olds learn in soccer?
For our slightly older kids, we focus on teaching them more advanced skills. Dribbling the soccer ball, passing, shooting, and learning how to play in positions are all things we introduce at this age.
Age-appropriate rules are both introduced and enforced, though some of the more complicated concepts are enforced more generously at the younger ages. All of our programs are beginner-friendly, so kids in this age group who haven’t played soccer before are welcome to join, learn, and have fun!
What do 9 – 12 year olds learn in soccer?
9 – 12 year olds are old enough that they’re learning full soccer rules and concepts. Offsides is introduced and enforced, and kids are learning to play specific positions and develop real skill at them. At i9 Sports, we believe in every child playing in every game – and this includes having opportunities to move into different positions and try things out throughout the season. The core fundamentals we always promote include sportsmanship and an overall love for the game.
My child has never played soccer before – can he or she join one of your teams?
Of course! Our kids soccer teams are all beginner-friendly, with strong age-appropriate progression. With a culture of fun and a focus on learning new skills, our kids’ sports leagues are great options for kids who want to try a new sport.
Every child plays in every game, so even if a child who is new to soccer is on a team of experienced players, they’ll still play in each game. This helps their skills progress and quickly come up to the level of the team.
