Toddler & Beginner TBall Leagues with i9 Sports®

Our tball leagues start with toddlers as young as three and go up to leagues with 5-8 year olds that can combine tball and coach-pitch, depending on each player’s ability level. Tball leagues at i9 Sports focus on teaching young players how to swing a bat, run the bases, and love the sport.

Every week, one player gets selected for a sportsmanship award to celebrate learning, development, and love of the game.

Why Play Tball?

Tball teaches young girls and boys essential life skills. These include working as part of a team, learning how plays are developed and executed, developing fine motor skills, and more. With these skills, children are well-positioned to begin playing baseball, or transfer their skills to another sport like soccer or flag football as they’re learning and growing.

What Equipment & Gloves Do 3-6 Year Olds Need to Play Tball?

At this age – it’s pretty simple! At i9 Sports, kids are provided with their jersey with their registration. If you want matching shorts for them, you can find them in our store. Otherwise, they need sturdy athletic/tennis shoes to play in (but at this age don’t need specialty footwear) and a glove. Find out more about how to pick a glove for TBall here.

Goals of TBall for 3-6 Year Olds

For the youngest children, our tball leagues focus on learning and development rather than winning and losing. Game rules and skills are introduced and enforced with age-appropriate instruction so toddlers and young children are able to understand and enjoy the game.

We teach our youngest players how to swing a bat, how to throw and catch, how to run the bases, and how to make friends through sports. At this age, hand-eye coordination is still actively developing, so we work with children to match their development level.

TBall Practice Commitments

We know families today are busier than ever, which is why all of our leagues, including our tball leagues, are structured with a one-day-a-week commitment.

Practices are scheduled before the games, so children can immediately implement their new skills in a game environment.

How Old Do Children Have to Be to Play Tball?

In general, we start with children or toddlers at age 3, and focus on tball for ages 3-4. At age 5, some kids can progress to coach-pitch baseball, while some are still in tball depending on their skill and comfort levels.

The decision to progress is based on the child’s skill levels, desire to progress, and hand-eye coordination. Every child learns and grows differently, so some stay in tball longer and that’s ok! The most important thing is developing a love of sports.

2-year-olds are a bit too young to be able to grasp the sport concepts required for tball, which is why our leagues start with 3-year-olds. Most locations offer tball seasons year-round, so kids can play near when they hit their birthday.
